Rebecca Merrill, EDM, MSW
Founder, President and Senior Executive Coach
For 16 years Rebecca has been coaching senior executives to improve their personal and professional lives through an in-depth analysis of personality styles and how they affect interpersonal relationships and leadership performance.
Rebecca founded Merrill Leadership in 1999 to be a unique, boutique coaching company focused on creating on-going coaching relationships that add value for clients over multiple years. She works primarily in-person with clients at the Merrill Leadership offices located in Durham, North Carolina and provides customized coaching approaches to promote integrated learning for individuals and teams including individual coaching, team coaching, seminars and workshops. Rebecca also speaks on the subject of leadership.
Rebecca has worked with companies, both large and small, in various industries including Banking, Clinical Research, Commercial Real Estate, Education, Manufacturing, On-line Retail and Wealth Management. She uses the MBTI Step II and the Enneagram Personality Type Indicator as well as other proprietary Merrill Leadership assessment materials including The Personality Politics 360 Feedback Tool©, High Net Worth Living© and Starfish Leadership©.
Rebecca earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Psychology and Religion, graduating magna cum laude, with honors in Religion, from Wellesley College in 1985. She received a master’s degree in Education from Harvard in 1989 and a second master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Smith in 1993 and trained clinically for an additional four years at Duke University. Rebecca is currently a member of a national mastermind group of executive coaches who meet and speak periodically to create cutting edge coaching solutions for current leadership challenges. Rebecca has written a book entitled Living In Yes: Helping Smart People Make Good Decisions that was first published in 2003. A new edition is due to be published in 2009. She is currently working on her second book entitled Personality Politics 101. Rebecca lives and works in Durham, NC with her husband, Bud.
Mark A. Rumbles, M.Ed.
Executive Coach
Mark's 25 year tenure as a senior human resources officer informs his approach to coaching chief executive officers, senior leaders and professionals in all areas related to leadership effectiveness, career transition and life balance. Keenly aware of the unique challenges faced by leaders who must manage multiple, sometimes conflicting, roles and meet the demands of diverse constituents, Mark facilitates, educates and coaches in highly dynamic environments, including health care and clinical research. He also speaks and teaches in the areas of leadership accountability, employee engagement, work culture and conflict resolution and is passionate about helping individuals experience personal and professional renewal, discover and leverage their unique strengths and live richer and more integrated lives.
Mark graduated from the Business Coach Institute and earned professional distinction as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He holds a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Human Resource Development from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University.
Stacey Magnum
Executive Coach
Stacey is an accomplished Human Resources executive who specializes in increasing the effectiveness of a firm’s valued human capital and optimizing overall organizational performance. Her passion is watching companies grow by engaging people to their full potential. She is expertly skilled in working with all levels to inspire changes within an organization, both personally and professionally.
Her philosophy is “People make it happen” and she believes that fostering a positive corporate attitude will build a company culture focused on achievement and will take the ordinary to extraordinary.
During her 20 years of field experiences as a Human Resources executive, Stacey has created the infrastructure needed to support organizations to success. As a transformational leader, she has created the human resources strategies, processes, management initiatives, metrics and KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) needed to successfully increase annual revenue per employee, maintain Human Resource margins and reduce expense ratios. She has been a part of numerous successful entrepreneur companies including recipients of the Deloitte & Touché Fast 50, PWC & TBJ Fast 50 awards. Stacey’s leadership in companies such as Geomagic, Arsenal Digital Solutions (acquired by IBM), LIPsinc, and Engineous Software (acquired by Dassault), has led to the hiring and placement of the right people in the right positions, thus creating an environment that fosters productivity and execution of business objectives. She make use of her unique interviewing style, along with effectual use of DiSC, Myers-Briggs and 360 assessments to ensure the highest return on human investment. As head of Human Resources at Arsenal Digital Solutions, she used unique interviewing and placement techniques to reduce employee turnover in a 24x7 call center by 59% in 15 months. By employing these same principles throughout the remaining departments, along with other management initiatives, Arsenal caught the attention of IBM and was soon acquired.
Peter Anlyan
Executive Coach
Peter Anlyan specialized in building highly functioning teams during the 20 years he spent working in corporate life and in two start-up companies. Peter has played the role of organizational development catalyst for his clients in multiple industries including Corporate, Non-Profit, Government, Education and Hospital Administration. He is a Certified Practitioner in the MBTI and Crucial Conversations and received a certificate in Coaching and Organizational Learning from the Newfield Coaching Program. Peter recently authored the Fulcrum Leadership and Team coaching curriculum. He was a founding leadership coach with Leadership Triangle and is a principle associate of The Learning Consortium. He has chaired, co-chaired or served on over a dozen organizational boards and is a founding director of Cardinal State Bank. Peter currently serves on the board of the RTP chapter of the Association of Psychological Type, is chair of the Psychodynamic Special Interest Group of Triangle Organizational Development Network and is Co-chair of the MIT Information Quality Industry Symposium. Peter lives in Durham with his wife, Sissy, and is the proud father of William and Emmy.
